Random tinkerings and playful discoveries

My Favorites

Bubbles

My first Silverlight application. This application attempts to measure the emotional intensity of news articles. Basically, it counts positive and negative words used, trying to determine whether it is a positive or negative article.

The State of Women's Health

Created for a presentation at Apeiron, this application displays data from the United Nations - World Health Organization's database regarding female health in the world. The scatter plot was custom made for the task as I wanted to control how the countries moved in and out of view.

Doomsday Countdown

Created with a friend, this app helps track how long to each upcoming doomsday event. Quite the satire.

Other Projects

Scooter

My first attempt at communicating to a PHP backend with Silverlight. This application tries to calculate whether or not a scooter is cost effective. The data isn't updated as often as it should be (especially in the winter).

CM333

This was done for a software engineering class I was taking. It generates questions generated by students. The database was stored in MySQL, the DAL is PHP and the client is Silverlight

Plaid

Another project for software engineering. This survey application was built using incremental development similar to SCRUM with a group of class-mates. It uses Silverlight, PHP and MySQL

Themes

A simple project to change the theme of the homepage. I wanted to play with different CSS and JavaScript techniques. There are links that change the background pictures and fonts. Certain themes change to external events (i.e. the sun moves across the screen)
